| September 2009 Sept 26 is Worldwide Day of Play to encourage kids to get up, get out and go play. It is also National Hunting and Fishing Day and National Public Lands Day. Weather looks beautiful for Florida, so find a young person or friend and get outdoors for some nature-based recreation. It will do you good, body, soul and mind. |
| August 2009 The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has launched the Neighborhood Explorers (NX) website! Designed for 8-11 year olds, to reach those children not currently participating in outdoor programs and activities. |
| July 2009 The Governor's Office and DEP along with Get Outdoors Florida! encourage families to get outdoors over Independence Day weekend. Park entry fees are waived for July 4th to encourage healthy outdoor connections iwth nature. |
| June 2009 June 13 is National Get Outdoors Day, which is supported by Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the National Forests in Florida. June 6-14 is National Fishing and Boating Week, and June is National Great Outdoors Month, which Governor Crist supported with a proclamation. VISIT FLORIDA has also made June Fishing Month at their Visitor Centers. School is out and it's time to take advantage of all the opportunities Florida has for active outdoors recreation that will reconnect you, your family and friends and with nature. |
| May 2009 The National Wildlife Federation and the Turner Foundation hosted a workshop in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) at the Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center (BTYCC). | April 22, 2009 Citing the critical need to improve environmental education across the country, The No Child Left Inside Coalition today applauded Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) and Congressman John Sarbanes (D-MD) for introducing the Senate and House versions of the historic No Child Left Inside Act (NCLI) on Earth Day 2009. April 1, 2009 The Florida Department of Environmental Protection and FWC issued a joint release on taking kids fishing and other fishing events taking place on April 4 through June 13 in State Parks. U.S. Forest Service announces that in support of "Get Outdoors Florida!", the three National Forests in Florida, the Apalachicola, the Osceola and the Ocala, will offer free admission to forest visitors on April 3-5, 2009 at most recreation sites. |

The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to stengthen environmental education experiences for schoolchildren both inside and outside of the nation’s classrooms. By a bipartisan vote of 293 to 109, the House approved the "No Child Left Inside" Act. |
